M&T PS: technology for the customer’s total satisfaction

Fair and congress promoted by Sobratema display what is new in technologies and service rendering strategies, adopted by the main companies in the construction segment, with focus in productivity sustainability and operational safety

Drones for monitoring large jobsites, which generate high definition images, with georeferencing; simulators which reproduce actual situations of vehicles and machines operation in jobsites; sensors that are capable to make remote diagnose the operation conditions of an equipment or to prevent its operation if the operator drank some beverage; terminals that supply in seconds about 2 thousand parts catalogs and equipment maintenance manuals. The scenario was of a sci-fi movie, but it was all real. The human intelligence was capable to create all this, and that can be used to increase the safety, productivity and sustainability in jobs, or improve the service rendering to the construction and mining machines users, was present at M&T Parts and Services – 2nd Fair and Congress of Technology and Management of Equipment for Construction and Mining.

The event, promoted by Sobratema – Associação Brasileira de Tecnologia para Construção e Mineração, was held in June 3 thru 6, at Imigrantes Exhibition & Convention Center, in São Paulo (SP), and was confirmed as the most important meeting in the after sale and services segment for the industry, in Latin America. Nothing less than 239 Brazilian and foreign exhibitors, coming from 12 countries, representing 266 brands, showcased already approved solutions in the daily activities in jobsites by the largest Brazilian building companies, or by their main suppliers, to a highly qualified public. The fair and the congress were visited by a qualified public, formed by representatives of projects and assessment engineering companies, manufacturers and equipment rental companies, municipalities and jobs management public entities, constructors, parts distribution companies and service rendering companies in a number of areas, among others. The profile of this young audience, very aware and eager for technology drew attention.

In the opening solemnity, which has the presence of the national political and economic world personalities, some important proposals were submitted to the audience, such as the information dissemination, benchmarking and the introduction of new technologies. “With the progress of the embedded technology, which is becoming increasingly sophisticated as far as concepts and controls are concerned, it became indispensable to maintain the assets operational condition in the highest level as possible”, said Afonso Mamede, president of Sobratema. “We live a fleet management revolution and our proposal is to have this event as the main window of this change, congregating the best in our industry presently, in the services rendering segment.”

Mamede also reinforced the entity commitment to the sustainable progress of the construction industry and the national engineering strengthening. “The construction segment is underused. It is necessary to invest more so that we will be able to overcame do Brazil Cost, changing the focus on consumption to investments in infrastructure”, he said. “And this should not be a mere occasion view, but a State strategy.”

Focus on maintenance

A few moments before the solemn opening of the event, in a press conference to the journalists who attended the meeting, Afonso Mamede pointed out the context into which M&T PS was being held. He stressed the scenario of electronic management systems dissemination and the labor capacitation, which are aspects that are changing the industry profile in a drastic and irreversible manner. “In the present market, productivity and safety are fundamental factors, which make the difference in the operation”, said Mamede. “And this fair has this characteristic, as we live a very important moment for the fleets, which are growing and are now operating in a cruise flight.”

Another context, identified by Sobratema management, was that of the market retraction. The consultant Brian Nicholson anticipated the forecasts for the industry this year, pointing out that the retraction can be more serious than the expected, getting around 5% to 10% in the Yellow Line. “With the reduction of public purchases, which saved the industry last year, the expectations are more directed toward public investments”, said Nicholson. “But, in fact, there is a huge uncertainty of the market and a tendency to rise (in the market volume) it is difficult”, he said.

‘For Mário Humberto Marques, vice-president of Sobratema, this retraction is caused by the temporary postponement of investments in big works, which is reflected in machines and equipment sales. On the other hand, there is a growing need of attention in fleet maintenance and, at the same time, more reinforcement in rental activities. “We have lived this before, when it was necessary to rationalize costs, and we decided to invest in the management of the already available machines”, he pointed out. “But this has also caused an increase of the fleet average service time. This is not good but is consistent with the lower activity degree that we are living presently.”

Eurimilson Daniel, also vice-president of the entity, warned about the implications of the competition with the imported products, a factor that has disparate effects on the Brazilian market. “We are not against, because it is of fundamental importance the insertion of the Country in the investments global chain, but this can lead to a reduction of the Brazilian industry capacity.”

Finally, the vice-president Juan Manuel Alstadt stressed the need of training and qualified service rendering, in this context of focus on the after sale. “He who works in the segment knows the importance of technical assistance and spare parts supply. And the manufacturers know that they should not just sell, but they should also provide adequate and intermittent support to the user.”
