Industrial construction ensures accurate technical control and aesthetics

Shopping Tietê takes advantage of the benefits of precast concrete components and receives the Work of the Year award

In a ceremony carried out in December—where remarkable personalities of Brazilian engineering and construction were present—Abcic (Brazilian Association  of Industrial Concrete Construction) gave the Work of the Year Award in Concrete Precast Elements of 2014 to the project Tietê Plaza Shopping. Located in the district of Pirituba, West Side of São Paulo. Having a total area of 130,334 sq.mt., the project was made feasible with competitive scheduling and cost due to an intensive use of concrete precast systems.

Approximately 25,000 cu.mt. of concrete precast structures (considering beams, hollow slabs, architectural structural and non-structural facade panels and stairs) were used in its construction.

Carried out by Racional Engenharia, the project had architectural design of Maria de Fátima Rodrigues Alves and structural design of Carlos Eduardo Melo. Concrebem Precast Elements was the supplier of precast structures.

Honorable mentions

The Judging Commission also awarded honorable mentions to two other projects that had stood out in the use of precast concrete structures. The first one was the Enseada do Paraguaçu Shipyard, in Maragogipe (BA), an architectural project developed by the consortium PSG (Planave, Sondotécnica and Genpro), whose structural design was carried out by the engineer George Maranhão. The precast structures for the works were supplied by T&A Pré-Fabricados, in a total of 11,000 cu.mt. of precast concrete elements.

The second honorable mention was given to the extension works of the International Airport of Brasilia, whose precast structures were manufactured by Cassol Pré-fabricados Ltda. The architectural design was developed by Gerardo Pucciarello and Marcelo Minoliti and the structural design was carried out by the engineer Luis Roberto Moritz. The works—that consumed a volume of 7318 cu.mt. of concrete—occupy an area of 50,405 sq.mt. and include an interconnection among the existing works and Pier South and Pier North.

In this edition, the Judging Commission decided to award two important and relevant works that used precast elements to receive the Jury Highlight Award: Arena Corinthians, with architectural design carried out by CDC Architectural Office in partnership with DDG Architecture, precast structure supplied by CPI Engineering, structural design developed by EGT Engineering and Fhecor do Brasil; and the Monument to the Cup, a clock designed by Oscar Niemeyer, that made the countdown till the opening of the event in June 12, whose precast structure was supplied by Leonardi.

Gala night in the industry

The World of the Year Award gives prestige to precast manufacturers and highlights the works of several areas that use industrial construction of concrete as its main constructive system. Created in 2011, during the celebration of the tenth year of Abcic, the award has media support of Concreto e Construções and Grandes Construções magazines.
