Ambev inaugurates a new plant at Ponta Grossa, state of Paraná, but gives up from the plant of Rio de Janeiro

With an investment of R$ 848 million, Ambev concluded its new branch at Ponta Grossa, Paraná, the Cervejaria Adriática.  The plant has an area of 2.6 million sq.mt. and a production capacity of 380 thousand hectoliters of beverages per month in its four lines of production. The construction of the Ambev plant in Ponta Grossa marks the return of production of the Original beer to where it was born, the former Cervejaria Adriática. It was designed to be the largest producer of beer and soft drinks of the Southern region and will start attending approximately 80 percent of the state demand.

The investments of Ambev in the Cervejaria Adriática are following the company’s plans of renewal and updating of its industrial park. “Our target is to increase the operating efficiency and the productivity of Brazilian plants. To do so, we are carrying out high investments in new technologies. This plant of Ponta Grossa has the most modern features in equipment and installations, comparable to those of the largest and most efficient breweries of the world”, says Flávio Torres, industrial vice-president of Ambev.

Ponta Grossa was selected for the new brewery due to its strategic location, near of important consuming markets. In addition to the state of Paraná, the production of Cervejaria Adriática will supply the states of São Paulo and Santa Catarina. In addition to the brewery located in Ponta Grossa, Ambev has a soft drink plant in Almirante Tamandaré and four direct distribution centers in the cities of Londrina, Francisco Beltrão, São José dos Pinhais and Ponta Grossa.

The design and construction of the new unit of Ambev were carried out by Matec Engenharia, which stands out in using industrial structures of concrete to build residential, commercial and industrial buildings. In addition to the traditional structures in precast concrete (pillars, beams and slabs) and building roofs, the company uses frequently foundation blocks, cementitious screeds and installations—such as those of sewage and water treatment, firefighting, pipe-racks and hydraulics—as a tool to increase construction speed and ensure excellence, eliminating waste and reducing the generation of scrap and the environmental impacts.

The highlights of the project are the complexity of construction logistics due to its dimension, the simultaneous construction of several buildings and the planning and interface with all assembling contractors. The main features of the project were very short deadlines, precast closings, mixed structure of concrete and steel, use of Light Steel Frame system and floor in prestressed concrete.

One of the main features of the project was the state-of-the-art design related to operating eco-efficiency. Machines that ensure lower consumption of water and power were installed in the unit. The heating matrix of the Adriática branch is 95 percent powered by renewable fuel. The unit uses biomass of wood chips and vegetable oil as fuel and also reuses almost 100 percent of all solid residue generated in the production. These residues are sent for animal feeding, recycling industries and turned into organic compound (fertilizer), eliminating almost completely the generation of garbage. This is a rule in all units of Ambev.
